The IUSCA Long Island Athletic Performance Clinic will be the first regional IUSCA event, featuring keynote presentations by leading names in the field of collegiate S&C/sports performance. This will be hosted at Stony Brook University, Long Island, NY, and will include lunch.

Speaker 1: Mark Ellis, Princeton University: Speed Training using GPS Technology for Lacrosse
Athletes
Mark Ellis joined the Princeton Strength and Conditioning Staff in February 2021 and oversees
men’s soccer, men’s swimming, men’s and women’s diving, men’s lacrosse, and women’s tennis.
Prior to Princeton, Ellis was an Assistant Athletic Performance Coach at Stony Brook University
where he oversaw Women’s Lacrosse as well as Women’s Swimming & Diving. While at Stony
Brook he had the opportunity to coach All-Americans, World Game athletes and conference
champions. In addition, he has also interned and volunteered at Hofstra University assisting
with Men’s Lacrosse, Wresting, Men’s Basketball and Women’s Basketball.
Mark earned his Bachelor’s degree in Multidisciplinary Studies in 2017 from Stony Brook
University while being a key player with the Seawolves' men's lacrosse program. After finishing
his undergrad work, Ellis received his Master's in Exercise Science from Hofstra in 2019, while
finishing up his collegiate lacrosse career where he was named captain of the Pride in 2019.
He continued his lacrosse career in Major League Lacrosse, playing for the New York Lizards in
2019 and 2020.
Ellis is a native of Hempstead, N.Y. and currently holds certifications with the NSCA as a Certified
Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Speaker 2: Joe Gilfedder, Fordham University: Developing an Annual Sports Performance Plan
for Football
Joe Gilfedder, is entering his third year at Fordham in 2021-2022, his first as the Senior Associate
Athletic Director for Sports Performance.
At Fordham, Gilfedder is responsible for the administration of the strength training and
conditioning programs for 22 intercollegiate teams as well as the oversight, maintenance, and
safety of the Walsh Training Center, where he will supervise and evaluate the Assistant Strength
& Conditioning staff.
Gilfedder arrived in the Bronx in March of 2018 after spending three years at Dartmouth College
in New Hampshire. Gilfedder started at Dartmouth in the summer of 2015 as a strength and
conditioning intern before being promoted to Associate Director of Strength, Speed, and
Conditioning in the summer of 2016. He worked directly with coaching staffs, athletic trainers,
and the student-athletes of his assigned teams to deliver individualized, sport-specific, year-round training plans. Gilfedder was responsible for the development of the Fueling Station,
providing athletes with quality, individualized nutrition for elite performance, as well as using
Catapult GPS and Polar HR technologies to track and monitor student-athlete performance and
training load.
Gilfedder arrived at Dartmouth via Springfield College where he completed his graduate studies
in Exercise Science with a Concentration in Strength and Conditioning in 2015. Concurrently, he
served as a Graduate Assistant in Strength and Conditioning for Varsity Football, Women’s
Lacrosse, and Men’s Sprinters and Jumpers from the track team. He also served as Head of the
Sports Nutrition program at Springfield, where athletes were educated on nutritional strategies
directed to improve health and enhance performance.
Gilfedder previously worked at American International College with their varsity football team
as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach from 2013-2015. He also completed internships
with the Rutgers University and Western Michigan University football teams.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning
Association, Gilfedder is also a Level 2 Performance Coach through United States Weightlifting.
He holds certification as a Sports Nutritionist with the International Society of Sports Nutrition
and is a Level 2 Precision Nutrition certified coach. Gilfedder also holds certifications in
Functional Range Conditioning (FRCMs), Functional Movements Systems (FMS), and Reflexive
Performance Reset (RPR L2).
Gilfedder earned a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Ithaca College in 2012.While at
Ithaca, he was a four-year letter winner at linebacker for the school’s football team, achieving
All-Conference honors as a senior.
A New Jersey native, Gilfedder graduated from Governor Livingston High School in Berkeley
Heights.
Speaker 3: Kelly Cosgrove, Clemson University: Assessing and Programming for the Rotational Athlete
Kelly is currently an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Clemson Tigers where
she works with the nationally ranked baseball program. She came to Clemson from Murray
State where she Served a Director of Olympic Sports.
Cosgrove joined the Racers from Stony Brook University where she worked with soccer,
swimming and diving and softball from 2018-20 in all areas of athletic performance and
nutrition. She earned a master’s degree in Nutrition at Stony Brook in 2020 and a degree in
Applied Exercise Science from Springfield College in 2015.
She also has experience at Dartmouth College (2016-18) as an Assistant Strength and
Conditioning Coach overseeing six sports teams and at the University of Connecticut as an
intern in 2015. Cosgrove served as a Strength Coach at the Professional Athletic Performance
Center in Garden City New York (2015-16).
Cosgrove is a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist by the NSCA and holds a Reflexive
Performance Reset Level 1 certification.
A career competitive gymnast from 1998-2011, Cosgrove currently enjoys training and
competing in powerlifting.
Speaker 4: Joel Lynch, Manhattanville University: Managing a Division 3 Strength and
Conditioning Department
Joel Lynch was appointed to the position of head strength and conditioning coach at
Manhattanville College in February 2021.
Lynch comes to Purchase, N.Y., following a three-year stint at Stony Brook University. By the time
of his departure, he was the assistant director of athletic performance and the head of
nutrition. During his tenure at Stony Brook, he accrued a number of responsibilities. Lynch
designed and implemented strength and conditioning workouts for several varsity teams,
including football, cross country, and track and field, while assisting with a variety of other
sports. He was also responsible for all aspects of sports nutrition including development of the
fueling station and nutrition education for over 500 student athletes.
He is a NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach and holds several other certifications in
both strength and conditioning and nutrition. That includes his certifications as a Precision
Nutrition Level 1 Coach and United States Weightlifting Sports Performance Coach (USAW). He
also holds certifications as a Certified Functional Strength Coach (CFSC), Functional Range
Conditioning (FRCms), and a Running Mechanics Professional (RMP-1).
Lynch graduated from Ithaca College in 2015 with a degree in exercise science and was a
strength and conditioning intern during his final year. Lynch also earned his masters in nutrition
science from Stony Brook during his time there.
Lynch is a native of Hackensack, N.J. and currently resides in Stamford Conn.
Speaker 5: Kevin Markle: Stony Brook University: Coaching through Questioning
Kevin joined the Athletic Performance staff at Stony Brook University in 2021 from Louisiana
Tech University. While at Louisiana Tech, Kevin led and assisted in the implementation and
execution of a holistic sports performance program for Louisiana Tech student-athletes. Kevin's
primary sports responsibilities were the Lady Techster Basketball and Volleyball programs, as well as the Bowling, Golf, and Tennis programs.
Prior to Louisiana Tech, Kevin was a Sports Performance Assistant at fellow America East
Institution University of Massachusetts, Lowell where he was the primary sports performance
coach for their Men's Soccer and Lacrosse programs. Prior to UMass Lowell, Kevin was a sports
performance graduate assistant at Wagner while simultaneously earning his graduate degree,
which he completed in 2020. While at Wagner, Kevin directly oversaw the Men's Basketball,
Women's Soccer, Swimming and Diving, and assisted with the Football sports performance
programs.
Kevin hails from Norristown, PA.
