Abertay University obtains Accredited Degree status

Abertay University, Scotland, has attained the prestigious IUSCA Accredited Degree status for it's BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning. This is the first university in Scotland to achieve Degree Accreditation from the IUSCA.

Abertay is widely regarded as one of the top destinations for high quality teaching. Recently, they have achieved the following:

  • Sunday Times UK University of the Year 2020 for Teaching Quality.

  • Guardian University Guide 2020 Top 10 in the UK for Student Satisfaction with Teaching, Course and Feedback.

  • National Student Survey 2020 Top 10 UK Universities for Student Satisfaction.

Through Degree Accreditation, students can be confident that they are undertaking a course that is industry recognised and will prepare them for future employment. Graduates from an IUSCA Accredited Degree will have a profile of skills and qualities that employers will be able to recognise, including:

  • The ability to utilise scientific thinking in a variety of contexts

  • Breadth and depth of knowledge within S&C

  • The ability to write and communicate with clarity and effectiveness

  • Demonstrated technical abilities

  • Significant experience as a practitioner (750 hours)

  • The ability to review and evaluate their own and others' practice and performance

Programme Leader Dr John Malone said: “We are delighted to have successfully obtained

accreditation for our BSc .(Hons.) Strength and Conditioning programme through the IUSCA. This accreditation provides prestige and considerably enhances the reputation of our programme, and we are very proud to be associated with the IUSCA.

It also enables students who achieve a 2:1 degree classification to obtain personal accreditation, which is a fantastic way to begin their S&C journey post-graduation!"

The IUSCA Degree Accreditation is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Strength and Conditioning, as well as the broader disciplines of Sport Science / Exercise Science as long as the competencies can be met. All students achieving Accredited status must also accumulate 750 hours of practical experience, which can be obtained through a range of practical's, laboratory sessions, internships, work placements, etc.
