IUSCA Job Board: Purpose and Principles
Purpose
The IUSCA Job Board has been established to support the development of the international strength and conditioning profession by improving transparency, promoting good employment practice, and helping practitioners and employers make better informed decisions.
The board provides a central location for strength and conditioning, athletic development, performance sport, sport science, and related employment opportunities from around the world.
Alongside advertising vacancies, it aims to improve understanding of professional roles by providing an independent framework through which they can be interpreted and compared.
Strength and conditioning has developed rapidly over recent decades, yet there remains considerable variation in how similar roles are described, structured, and rewarded. Job titles often differ despite requiring comparable knowledge, responsibility, and professional judgement. Equally, similar qualification requirements may be attached to roles with substantially different responsibilities or levels of remuneration.
The IUSCA Job Board has been developed to improve this clarity. By applying a consistent framework to the interpretation of roles, practitioners can better understand career progression, employers can develop more appropriate recruitment practices, and the wider profession can continue moving towards greater consistency and recognition.
Guiding Principles
Supporting the Profession
The primary purpose of the IUSCA Job Board is to contribute positively to the strength and conditioning profession. It has been developed as a professional resource that supports employers, practitioners, students, universities, and organisations seeking to recruit or develop appropriately qualified staff.
Transparency
Meaningful recruitment depends upon clear information. Wherever possible, the IUSCA encourages employers to provide sufficient detail regarding the responsibilities, expectations, contractual arrangements, and remuneration associated with each position so that applicants can make informed decisions.
Transparency also supports employers by improving candidate suitability and reducing misunderstanding during recruitment.
Role Clarity
Professional roles should be defined primarily by their scope of practice, level of responsibility, autonomy, decision-making requirements, and expected contribution, rather than by job title alone.
The IUSCA therefore seeks to promote greater consistency in how strength and conditioning roles are understood across different organisations, sectors, and countries.
Professional Standards
The strength and conditioning profession benefits from clear expectations regarding knowledge, competence, responsibility, and professional practice.
The IUSCA supports the continued development of these standards through the International Qualification Framework (IQF) Strength and Conditioning Practitioner pathway. The IQF provides a structured framework through which practitioner roles can be interpreted according to their expected scope of practice, level of professional judgement, autonomy, responsibility, and contribution to the profession.
Fair and Proportionate Recruitment
Appropriate recruitment requires reasonable alignment between the responsibilities of a role, the qualifications and experience expected of applicants, and the overall employment package being offered.
The IUSCA encourages recruitment practices that recognise professional competence while supporting sustainable career development throughout the profession.
International Perspective
The Job Board has been developed for an international profession.
Employment structures, educational systems, salary expectations, regulatory environments, and professional titles vary considerably between countries. The IUSCA therefore recognises that direct comparisons are not always appropriate.
The IQF provides a common professional framework through which roles from different regions can be interpreted while recognising the legitimate differences that exist between national employment systems.
Editorial Independence
The IUSCA maintains editorial independence in the presentation and interpretation of roles listed on the Job Board.
Where appropriate, vacancies may be classified according to the IQF Strength and Conditioning Practitioner framework in order to provide additional context for practitioners and employers. These classifications are intended to improve transparency and understanding of professional roles and should not be interpreted as criticism or endorsement of any individual employer unless explicitly stated.
Commitment
The IUSCA is committed to supporting the continued professionalisation of strength and conditioning through evidence-informed guidance, transparent recruitment practices, and internationally applicable professional standards.
The Job Board forms part of this wider commitment by helping practitioners better understand career pathways, supporting employers in recruiting appropriately qualified professionals, and encouraging greater consistency across the international strength and conditioning profession.
