A Landmark for IUSCA Degree Accreditation in Asia
IUSCA is delighted to announce that the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong (THEi) has become the first institution in Asia to achieve IUSCA Degree Accreditation, recognising its Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Coaching.
This milestone reflects a shared commitment to advancing Strength and Conditioning education beyond traditional approaches centred on acquiring established knowledge and methods.
IUSCA Degree Accreditation recognises institutions that prepare students to think independently, critically evaluate evidence, define problems, exercise professional judgement and make effective decisions in complex, real-world environments.
As higher education faces increasing pressure to demonstrate professional relevance and graduate readiness, these capabilities are essential.
Accredited programmes embed the competencies of the International Qualification Framework (IQF) throughout the degree, integrating:
🎓 Scientific knowledge and critical thinking
🏋️ Extensive hands-on coaching experience
📊 Applied scientific practitioner skills
🧠 Independent problem-solving and professional judgement
📂 Portfolio development and evidence of professional competence
🎥 Rigorous practical coaching assessments
Students can progress through IQF Level 2 and Level 4 certifications, with eligible graduates progressing to IQF Level 6 Accredited International Strength and Conditioning Practitioner (aISCP) recognition upon satisfying the relevant requirements.
Dr Jim Luk, Head of the Department of Sport and Recreation at THEi, commented:
“Achieving IUSCA Accredited Degree Status is an important milestone for THEi’s Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Sports Coaching, recognising our commitment to integrating academic knowledge with applied strength and conditioning practice.”
This accreditation marks an important step in strengthening internationally aligned, IQF-informed S&C education across Asia.
Congratulations to Dr Luk and the entire THEi team.
