Bishop Burton College obtains Accredited Degree status

Bishop Burton College (University Centre Bishop Burton) has attained the prestigious IUSCA Accredited Degree status for it's BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning.

Bishop Burton College is East Yorkshire's leading land-based college. University Centre Bishop Burton (UCBB) provides specialist, technical education to ensure that you succeed in your chosen career.


The BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning programme was developed in response to a growing demand for highly skilled and evidence-based practitioners with specialism in the physical training of a range of populations. The programme is aligned to the vocational skills, knowledge and applied skills in strength and conditioning required for professional accreditation in this field. Graduates from the programme will now be eligible to be an accredited International Strength and Conditioning Practitioners (aISCP) with the IUSCA.


Through the IUSCA Degree Accreditation, students can be confident that they are undertaking a course that is industry recognised and will prepare them for future employment. Graduates from an IUSCA Accredited Degree will have a profile of skills and qualities that employers will be able to recognise, including:

  • The ability to utilise scientific thinking in a variety of contexts

  • Breadth and depth of knowledge within S&C

  • The ability to write and communicate with clarity and effectiveness

  • Demonstrated technical abilities

  • Significant experience as a practitioner (750 hours)

  • The ability to review and evaluate their own and others' practice and performance

Programme Leader, Samantha Terry said: "We are delighted to receive IUSCA accreditation. The accreditation demonstrates our commitment to delivering quality education, ensuring that our BSc (Hons) Strength and Conditioning program equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to excel in the sports and fitness industry, both nationally and internationally. With this accreditation, our students can graduate as accredited practitioners, ready to make a positive impact on a global scale."

The IUSCA Degree Accreditation is available to all undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Strength and Conditioning, as well as the broader disciplines of Sport Science / Exercise Science as long as the core competencies can be met. All students achieving Accredited status must also accumulate 750 hours of practical experience, which can be obtained through a range of practical's, laboratory sessions, internships, work placements, etc.
