The International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association (IUSCA) is pleased to announce its official endorsement of the Strength and Conditioning Internship Programme at Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU). This endorsement reflects the IUSCA’s ongoing commitment to promoting high-quality, practical education in sports performance and conditioning.
The internship program at LJMU has been designed to provide hands-on experience in a cutting-edge learning environment, preparing students to meet the demands of the modern sports industry. Participants in the program engage with real-world applications of performance science, working alongside expert practitioners in the field of strength and conditioning. This collaboration ensures that students receive both theoretical knowledge and valuable practical experience, as well as embedded vocational qualifications at Level 2 and Level 4 on the International Qualification Framework (IQF).
The program’s comprehensive curriculum covers key areas such as:
Applied Strength and Conditioning
Athlete Monitoring and Workload Management
Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation
Performance Data Analytics
Leadership and Communication Skills in a Professional Setting
Andrew Langford, Director of the IUSCA, highlighted the importance of practical experience in the field, stating, “We are delighted to award LJMU with IUSCA endorsement for their internship programme. Following thorough, vigorous review and assessment, we determined the LJMU strength and conditioning internship to be a highly effective and valuable development scheme for their students. This endorsement certifies that the curriculum meets high standards and enables graduates to receive vocational qualifications, enhancing employability in the strength and conditioning profession.”
The endorsement of the LJMU internship program aligns with the IUSCA’s mission to elevate standards in strength and conditioning education, helping to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and professional practice.
Conor Heeney, Performance Sport Science Co-ordinator at the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences, and in charge of the strength and conditioning internships, said: “I’m delighted that IUSCA has recognised the quality and excellence of our internship scheme here at LJMU. Access to this further professional accreditation enhances the opportunities available to our students. We’ve also revised and mapped out our internship curriculum to meet the IUSCA certifications making our students eligible for a severely reduced Level 2 and Level 4 Strength and Conditioning Instruction Certification automatically.”
