We’re pleased to share another confirmed presentation title from our speaker line-up at the IUSCA International Conference on Strength and Conditioning, taking place at Leeds Beckett University on Friday 5th June 2026.

Prof. Paul Comfort will present:

Power – A Critical Evaluation of Testing and Training Methods

Power is a central focus in strength and conditioning, yet the way it is assessed and developed is often inconsistent, and at times poorly aligned with performance outcomes. In this session, Paul will critically evaluate common methods used to test and train power, examining their validity, limitations, and practical relevance.

The presentation will explore how practitioners can better interpret power-related data, select appropriate testing protocols, and make more informed decisions when designing training programmes. The aim is to bridge the gap between research and applied practice, ensuring that methods used in the field are both scientifically grounded and practically effective.

Professor Paul Comfort is a leading researcher and practitioner in strength and conditioning, with extensive experience across elite sport and academia. His work has significantly influenced contemporary approaches to strength and power development, and he is widely published in the areas of performance testing, weightlifting derivatives, and applied S&C practice.
